Two men were violently killed in separate incidents in Lupane and Bubi districts in Matabeleland North as concern grew over violent crime in the district.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said a man from Bubi was struck by a mentally challenged man on March 8 and succumbed to his injuries 21 days later.

β€œPolice are investigating a murder case in which a man (28) was fatally struck once on the head with a pick at a shebeen at Kennilworth, Inyathi, by a suspected mentally challenged man, on 08/03/22,” police said.

“The victim was referred to Mpilo Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries on 29/03/22.”

In another incident, the Lupane man was fatally stabbed to death by a fellow imbiber.

β€œThe ZRP confirms the arrest of Host Mpofu (28) for a case of murder which occurred at Mathambo Village Lupane on 29/03/22 where he allegedly stabbed Prince Ngwenya (28) once on the left side of the chest after a misunderstanding at a beer binge,” police said.

“The victim died on the spot.”

Meanwhile, police said they are also investigating a suspected suicide case which occurred on March 30 in Kensington area in Bulawayo where bodies of a woman (23) and her daughter (9) were found lying on a bed in a locked room with froth coming from their mouths.

Police said the room was locked from inside and a 100ml bottle of Diazon 30EC insecticide was recovered beside the bodies.
