Community football teams in the Chief Mvuthu area on the outskirts of Victoria Falls will welcome 2022 in style after a Zimbabwean based in Namibia provided sponsorship of US$240 for a tournament on New Year’s Day.

Bishop Tshuma, who is originally from BH36, said he was celebrating being back home for the festive season after a long time outside the country.

The teams from Kachechete, Chidobe and Mpumelelo villages will lock horns in the tournament and provide entertainment to villagers.

“It’s let has been a long time (since I was last home), and l was happy to find some of my age mates playing soccer,’ Tshuma told VicFallsLive.

“That’s why l thought of sharing the little that l have.”

The tournament will feature prominent teams in the village, which are part of the fledging Mvuthu Football Association league.

The teams are Zamalek, Ajax, Power Stars and Dragon who are the champions in Mvuthu Football Association league, Masters and Red Wipers.

The teams have been split into two groups with Group B dubbed the group of death as it features Dragons, Masters and Red Wipers.

Only two teams from the group will advance into the semi-finals.

The other group will see hosts Ajax, Power Stars and Zamalek battling each other for the two available slots in the semis.

The games will be played in two days starting on Thursday with the hosts Ajax taking on Power Stars, followed by the Chidobe derby where Dragons will lock horns with Masters.

The third match on the same day will see Zamalek playing Group A first match loser.

The semi finals will be played on New Year’s Eve.

The winners will walk away with US$80 while the runners up will get US$60, the team on third place will be give US$40 and the one in fourth place will walking away with US$30.

There will be consolation prizes for the losers pegged at US15 per team.

Meanwhile, another US$30 has been set aside for former Youngsters and Zamalek retired boozers that will headline the tournament as curtain raisers in the final matches.

” l want Youngsters and Zamalek old players to play,” Tshuma said.  “l miss them.

“We used to enjoy during our time.

The games will kick off at midday.
