A Victoria Falls woman has been fined $4 500 for assaulting her co-tenant’s six-year-old child for allegedly assaulting her daughter.
Bekezela Nyoni (28) appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa charged with assault.
Prosecutor Asher Chindedza said on July 10 at around 2PM, Nyoni went to her co-tenant’s house in Mkhosana and assaulted the six-year-old juvenile with a switch code three times on her back.
Nyoni, who was a first-time offender, told the court that she was angered by the complaint’s daughter after she assaulted her child for no apparent reason.
In her judgment, Maphosa said she considered that the accused had not wasted the court’s time by pleading guilty and that she had a newborn baby before imposing a non-custodial sentence would be appropriate.
The magistrate said she had considered that the victim had not suffered any injuries.
“In aggravation, the accused person decided to assault the complainant instead of using other means to discipline her.
“Her conduct leaves a lot to be desired and, therefore, she is sentenced to two months imprisonment which is suspended for five years, and the accused is further fined to pay $4 500 or face 14 days in jail by December 21.”
