The funeral service for Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, who passed away last week, is currently underway in Bulawayo.
The procession began with a hearse driving through the city, passing through Masotsha Ndlovu Extension Road, Makokoba, and Mzilikazi suburbs.
The body has arrived at Barbourfields Stadium, where Dube was a long-time benefactor of Highlanders.
The Zimbabwe National Army and family members have ushered the body into the stadium, accompanied by revolutionary eulogies from poets.
Bulawayo Minister of State Judith Ncube is representing the government at the funeral service, which is also attended by service chiefs, government and Zanu-PF officials, Bulawayo City Council officials, and citizens.
Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube was a pioneer liberation fighter, military strategist, and commander who dedicated his life to the ethos of liberation struggle and independence of Zimbabwe.
He played a significant role in the liberation war, commanding Umkhonto Wesizwe of the African National Congress in Tsholotsho and Hwange.
Dube joined the armed struggle in 1964 and became part of the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) High Command.
He will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre on Wednesday.
