Lupane man jailed for 12 months over domestic violence

A Lupane man has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for physically abusing his wife on two separate occasions.

The incidents occurred on December 27, 2024, and January 2 this year, with the accused assaulting his wife with open hands, fists, and a whip, causing injuries to her face and body.

The court heard that the first incident was sparked by a domestic dispute over the complainant’s whereabouts on Christmas Eve.

The accused became violent, assaulting his wife, who managed to escape and seek refuge at her aunt’s homestead.

In a shocking turn of events, the accused visited his wife at her aunt’s homestead, seeking forgiveness, and she agreed to return home with him.

However, upon their arrival, the accused again accused his wife of infidelity and assaulted her multiple times with a whip.

The court sentenced the accused to 12 months in prison, with six months suspended on condition of good behavior.

In Zimbabwe, domestic violence is a serious crime, and perpetrators can face up to 10 years in prison under the Domestic Violence Act [Chapter 5:16]. The court’s decision in this case sends a strong message that domestic violence will not be tolerated.

A 32-year-old man is on the run from the law after allegedly murdering a 24-year-old woman in Lupane.

Vuminkosi Dlamini is accused of stabbing Pink Moyo multiple times at Sibombo Business Centre on December 6.

According to police, Dlamini allegedly committed the crime after accusing Moyo of luring his cousin into prostitution.

The police are urging anyone with information on Dlamini’s whereabouts to report to their nearest police station.

Conductor killed in bus accident along Dandanda-Jotsholo road

A bus conductor lost his life in a tragic accident along Dandanda-Jotsholo Road in Lupane after being run over by the bus he was working on.

The incident occurred on November 17, at approximately 1:30 a.m.

According to the police report, the conductor was hanging precariously on the moving bus and unfortunately slipped and fell, resulting in fatal injuries.

The police are now urging bus operators and crew members to exercise extreme caution and adhere to safety protocols to avoid such devastating accidents.

They specifically warn against allowing loaders or conductors to hang dangerously on moving vehicles, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety on the roads.

Lupane woman accused of killing own child

A 22-year-old woman has appeared in court, facing murder charges after the death of her 14-month-old baby boy.

The incident occurred in Lupane on September 6.

According to the state, Patience Gelly Moyo is accused of taking her child outside and throwing him onto a rock surface, resulting in his death.

Lupane magistrate’s court was told that, she  then moved the body to a bedroom hut and locked the door.

According to reports , Moyo took her child from the kitchen hut and went outside, where she committed the act.

After realizing the child was dead, she moved the body to the bedroom hut and locked the door. She then proceeded to the garden, returning home around 11AM to inform her mother-in-law of the child’s death.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the child’s death was caused by assault.

Moyo has been remanded in custody pending police investigations and medical examinations by two doctors in terms of the Mental Health Act.

She is scheduled to appear in court on October 1.
