The government has completed the construction of the Welshman Mabhena Complex in Lupane, with 90% of civil servants’ houses now finished.
This milestone marks a significant step towards relocating some government services from Bulawayo to Lupane, starting next month.
Currently, most government offices for Matabeleland North are situated in Bulawayo’s Mhlahlandlela Government Complex, which has hindered citizens’ access to basic services for years.
During a Cabinet update on Tuesday, Vice President Kembo Mohadi reported on his visit to Lupane two months ago, where he assessed the readiness of the civil servant houses and government complex offices for occupancy.
“The civil servants’ houses are 90% complete while the Government complex is complete. The houses can be immediately completed, while the Government Offices can also be utilized before the end of the third quarter,” Mohadi said.
Mohadi also announced that 55 government officials have volunteered to relocate to Lupane and have been allocated 19 houses.
“Fifty-five Government officials have volunteered to immediately relocate to Lupane and are ready to move. A total of 19 houses have already been allocated to the 55 Government officials from the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies for the relocation,” he added.
Accordingly, Mohadi confirmed that government services will be available to the public from the Provincial Capital, Lupane, starting September 1.
“Accordingly, the public will be served from the Provincial Capital, Lupane with effect from 1st September, 2024,” he said.
This move aims to improve access to basic services for citizens in Matabeleland North.
