Matabeleland North has received 65 000 of doses of Covid-19
vaccines to alleviate shortages that were threatening to derail the vaccination
programme.
Munekayi Padingani, Matabeleland North provincial medical
director, said the vaccines were now being distributed to the districts.
“We distributed the first 15 000 batch and now we have also
started to distribute 50 000 that we just received,” Padigani said.
“Only Hwange district has not collected theirs, but they are
on their way now to collect.”
The delivery of the vaccines also came at a time when the
province was registering a surge in new infections.
As of July 12, Matabeleland North had 966 active Covid-19
cases.
Hwange, Binga and Nkayi have the highest number of Covid-19
cases and deaths followed by Lupane and Tsholotsho.
Umguza and Bubi have the least number of cases, Padingani
said.
