Victoria Falls’ Mvuthu league enters exciting stretch

The Mvuthu Football Association league took another twist at the weekend as two top teams emerged as the frontrunners for the title.

Log leaders Dragon Football Club made sure that they collected all the six points in the two games they played over the weekend where they beat Power stars 3-1 on Saturday before leaving it late on Sunday to beat a much-improved Wounded Buffalo at Dragon stadium.

Dragons, who moved seven points clear of second placed Red Wipers, had Mqabuku Ndlovu to thank for the Sunday match that had Dragons getting the winner in the dying minutes of the game.

Across the village at BH19, at Ndlovu stadium Red Wipers made easy work of Ndlovu United whom they beat 7-0 to make a serious statement to othèr title chasers in the league.

On Sunday, the affectionately known Mvuthu Stars made a long trip to Sizanani Stadium at BH34 and also came tops to add a new dimension to the title fight, which has now turned into a two horse race between the Dragons and Red Wippers.

The team moved to 47 points, seven behind log leaders Dragon and four points ahead of third placed Cer Class club.

At Chidobe Sinyore stadium, Masters lost a surprise package to Mopane who beat them 1-0 before turning on the power on Sunday to beat Lupinyo City 2-1 in a tightly contested match thanks to Mbekezeli Mpofu that put the club in seventh position.

At Bh36, Zamalek were back to their best when they mauled Moro Moro 11-0 after a disappointing loss to Black Bulls on Saturday.

Black Bulls on the other hand continued with their impressive form beating Eagles 2- 1 away at Bh27.

Cer Class who were beaten by Lupinyo city 2-1 on Saturday failed to rise on the log as they were held to a nil all draw by Mopane at home.

It was a good result for Mopane, who had shocked Masters 1- 0 on Saturday.

Black Leopards lost 2- 1 to Ndlovu on Sunday and were held to a draw on Saturday by wounded Buffalos.

It remains to be seen how the teams are going to manage the double fixtures every week as the league pushes to end the season in the first week of December.

There are 10 games left for most of the teams with the Red Wipers having played two games less than the rest of the teams.
