A 26 year-old Victoria Falls man has been arrested for allegedly raping his six year-old niece.
This was heard on Tuesday when the accused appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Godswill Mavenge, accused of raping an Early Childhood Development pupil.
He was not asked to plead.
The state presented by Portia Moyo alleges that the accused raped the girl this month when the juvenile was left in his custody when the mother had gone to church.
“The accused took advantage of the absence of the complainant’s parents and made her to lie on sofa, undressed her and had sexual intercourse,” said the prosecutor.
The matter came to light when she narrated her ordeal to her teacher at school on November 8.
The juvenile said after raping her, her uncle promised to buy her some chocolates to buy her silence.
The complainant was taken to Victoria Falls Hospital where she was examined after repeating the same story to the police officers.
He was remanded in custody to December 14 for a possible plea at Hwange Regional Court.
