The Victoria Falls City Council has given ratepayers a 14-day ultimatum to pay outstanding bills or face legal action.
Neville Ndlovu, the city treasurer, on Monday began dispatching letters of demand to defaulting residents.
“Our records show that you owe Victoria Falls Municipality the sum of US$ 350 being outstanding land and related charges for the above-mentioned address,” one of the letters read.
“We are, therefore, advising you to clear the stated amount within the 14 days, failure of which council will have no option but to start legal proceedings against you to recover the debt
“We hope you will find the above well in order.”
Council says it is owed over $200 million by residents and it is struggling to finance service delivery.
Last year Victoria Falls residents threatened to stop paying council bills as they demanded transparency in the management of funds by the local authority.
Residents were not happy about the state of street lighting in the resort city and the management of a special levy for Mosi Oa Tunya Secondary School.
The levy was for the construction of a public hall at the school.
Victoria Falls was conferred city status in December last year.
It is the only city in Matabeleland North province.
