Police are investigating the death of a Victoria Falls City Council employee, who was found dead inside a tank at the council’s main water works near the Zambezi River at the weekend.
The body of Nqgabutho Ndlovu (33) from Mkhosana high density suburb was found inside the empty tank he had been assigned to clean with his co-workers.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda said a post-mortem on Ndlovu’s body will be done at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.
Banda said his body, which was discovered by fellow workmates, had no visible injuries.
He said on the day, Ndlovu and his 12 workmates were cleaning the empty tank, ruling out theories that he might have drowned.
According to a police memo on the death, Ndlovu was found “lying lifeless in an empty tank with the head facing upwards” by his other workmates Gabriel Nyoni and Starnel Nyoni at 7.30AM on Sunday.
“They then informed their supervisor Sabelo Khoza before retrieving the body from the empty water tank,” Banda said.
A report was made at the Victoria Falls police station.
” No visible injury was observed on the body and is at Victoria Falls mortuary awaiting post-mortem,” he said.
“Investigation is in progress. “
