MDC-T has recalled several opposition legislators and councillors since a controversial Supreme Court ruling in 2019 that said MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s ascendancy to the helm of the party following the death of Morgan Tsvangirai was irregular.

Morgen Dube, the party’s Matabeleland North provincial chairman, recently wrote to the MDC-T top leadership that included Mwonzora demanding the recalls saying they were “no longer serving the party interests.”

Hwange Central legislator Daniel Molekele is one of the officials targeted for recall, it has emerged.

“We are kindly requesting for the recall of a member of the Upper House of Assembly, House of Assembly member, provincial council members, and local government members as listed below, ” Dube said.

“The said members are no longer serving the party interests but have shown allegiance to the MDC Alliance.”

Provincial council members include, Caroline Ndlovu, George Siachuma, Sharon Ndlovu and Chiratidzo Mdimba.

Councillors targeted for recalls include Steve Chisvosve, Salome Chirwa, Teresa Mtara, Tendai Sibanda, Bakani Kwidini, and Edmore Zhou from Hwange West and Central constituencies.

Dube said the provincial executive had tried to persuade the officials to join Mwonzora’s camp to no avail.

“We have tried to talk to them to no avail hence their failure to contribute as well as attend party meetings but contribute and attend Alliance meetings.

” According to our party constitution, any member who absent himself or herself for three consecutive meetings or declares membership to another party ceases to be a party member.”

Molokele said he was not worried about the pending recalls as he was loyal to the MDC Alliance.

“It seems so, but l don’t care at all,” he said when asked if he was aware of the developments.

” I am more than ready to be recalled. I remain 100 percent behind Advocate Nelson Chamisa,” he added.

Mwonzora and former MDC-T acting president Thokozani Khupe have been accused by the MDC Alliance of conniving with Zanu PF to dismantle the opposition ahead of the 2023 elections.

On the other hand, the two argue that they are protecting the party’s constitution, which they say was abused by Chamisa’s group.
