Siso Mpofu of Chidobe Village and his 20-year-old daughter in-law Concilia Tshuma were arrested after the woman confessed to her husband Cornelius Dube that she had been sleeping with her father in law, who infected her with STIs.

The duo was convicted for having sexual intercourse within a prohibited degree of relationship when they appeared before resident magistrate Godswill Mavenge on Monday.

They pleaded guilty to the offence.

In his ruling, Mavenge said failure to pay the fine would see the two serving a mandatory 30 day sentence.

He also handed them an additional six months imprisonment term, which was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutors said sometime in December last year and at Mpofu’s homestead, the two had sexual intercourse several times and on different occasions.

The matter came to light when Dube forced his wife to reveal whom she had slept with after he had been diagnosed with STIs.

Tshuma told the court Mpofu, whom her husband worked for demanded sexual favours from her to secure her husband’s job.

Dube told the court that Mpofu was his uncle.
