Killer ex-cop arrested while fleeing to Mozambique

A murder suspect who had been on the run after brutally shooting and killing three people in Wedza was on Monday morning arrested by a mob as he attempted to cross into Mozambique to escape his crimes.

Jaison Muvevi has been sought by police since Friday last week for three counts of murder after he allegedly shot a self-styled Johanne Masowe prophet at a shrine in Wedza before shooting a Wedza police Officer in Charge, a bartender at a local business center and injuring another police officer on the same day.

Police in a statement confirmed the arrest.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the murder suspect, Jaison Muvevi has been arrested while trying to cross into Mozambique this morning,”police said.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police acknowledges and appreciates the support given by members of the public in the pursuit of the suspect.”

Meanwhile, police have identified the victims as Crispen Mubvana Kanerusine, 62, of Zinzombe Village, Wedza; Inspector Maxwell Hove, 43, of ZRP Wedza Camp and Munashe Mujanhi, 20, of Mujanhi Village, Wedza.

The injured detective has been identified as Tendai Mugova.

Muvevi has been on the run after evading a joint operation by police and the soldiers, but his luck ran out after he was mobbed by the public on Monday morning.

Viral social media video showed a cornered Muvevi wrestling on the ground after a crowd cornered him.
