Jambezi woman killed by lightning, family members thrown out of hut

A woman from Jambezi on the outskirts of Victoria Falls was struck killed by a lightning bolt on Wednesday while other family members were injured after the kitchen hut where they were seated caught fire.

The traditional leader for the area Chief Shana confirmed the death of the villager Manono during the heavy storms that pounded the area.

“She was in a kitchen hut with her other family members including a small child, who also sustained some injuries.”  Chief Shana told VicFallsLive.

“We received some strange rains on Wednesday afternoon and there was too much thunder and lighting.

“So this is how she lost her life while their kitchen hut where they were seated also caught fire and burnt everything there.”

Chief Shana said it was still a mystery how other family members were thrown outside while the woman was burnt almost beyond description.

“I haven’t gotten the correct figure of the number of family members that were inside that kitchen because there is poor network for to reach to the family,” he added.

“On the day it happened, a child who was with the deceased was thrown out of the kitchen and escaped with minor injuries just like the rest.”

According to pictures seen by VicFallsLive, the family’s property including bicycle, buckets and plates, among other kitchen utensils were burnt.

The roof of the kitchen hut also gave in during the inferno.
