Jambezi brothers in bloody fight over sugarcane

A 52-year-old Jambezi man was severely assaulted by his young brother after he complained about the manner he was harvesting sugarcane from his garden.

Victoria Falls magistrate Linda Dzvene was on Tuesday told how Macloud Ncube from the Chief Shana area on the outskirts of the resort city was left nursing a fractured leg and a swollen lip following the vicious attack by his young brother Nambikwa Ncube (47) on September 29.

Prosecutors said Nambikwa went beserk after his brother complained about the way he was harvesting the sugarcane.

They said Nambikwa “assaulted the complainant with clenched fists several times over the matter on his face before picking a stone and started to hit him with it all over his body.”

After dropping the stone, he went on to bite his brother’s upper lip and caused severe hemorrhage and injury.

It was not stated in court how Nambikwa let go of his brother, but it was revealed that a police report was immediately made in Jambezi, leading to his arrest.

In court, it was revealed that the two have a history of physically abusing each other.

According to a medical report produced in court, Mcloud sustained serious injuries, including a fracture on his leg.

Nambikwa was convicted on his own plea of guilt.

Dzvene handed him a 12-month jail term before suspending three months for five years on condition of good behavior

A further nine months were suspended on condition that he performs 315 hours of community service at Kanyambizi Clinic starting on November 29.
