Gwanda villagers go beserk, stone suspected sheep thief to death

Seven villagers from Gwanda in Matabeleland South allegedly stoned to death a fellow villager they found skinning a sheep belonging to a fellow villager, police have said.

The villagers from Magedleni village are accused of killing Richard Nyoni who allegedly stole Unite Ndlovu’s sheep.

Five of the villagers were arrested on the same day while the other two suspects are still on the run.

“The suspects as well as Khumbulani Nsingo and Moses Ndlovu who are still at large, hit the victim, Richard Nyoni with stones and logs after they found him at his homestead, skinning a sheep allegedly stolen from Unite Ndlovu (58), ” police said in a statement.

In Tshanyaugwe, also in Gwanda, a mob of villagers on Sunday attacked a 72 year-old man and his sons after they accused him of selling them out to the police about their cattle rustling activities.

“Several suspects from neighbhouring villages armed with axes, machetes, spears, iron bars and knobkerries attacked a man (72) and his three sons alleging that they were giving information to the police on the suspects’ cattle rustling activities,” police said.

“Police are hunting for the suspects who include, Prince Makhalima, Mehluli Makhalima, Nhlanhla Makhalima, Precautious Makhalima, Mavha Gumbi, Nkomoza Gumbi, as well as other suspects only identified as Lawrence, Mbongeni and Evans among other unnamed suspects.”

In Matabeleland North’s Hwange district, police are investigating a fatal hit and run accident which occurred along an unnamed road in Empumalanga area on Sunday at around 1AM.

“An unknown motorist driving a silver BMW vehicle sped away from a police patrol vehicle and hit a suspected druck person who was sleeping on the roadside.”
