Granny (70) tortured to death over girlfriend

A 70-year-old Esigodini man was tortured to death by a 42-year-old man, who held him for two days following an argument over a woman.

Police on Sunday said Millias Ncube (70) died on Friday at the United Bulawayo Hospitals where he was admitted after he was allegedly tortured by Chelesani Mpofu, also from Esigodini.

Mpofu allegedly tortured Ncube between August 9 and 10.

“Police in Esigodini are investigating a murder case in which the victim, Millias Ncube (70), died on 27/08/21 upon admission at United Bulawayo,” police said in a statement.

“The suspect, Chelesani Mpofu (42) assaulted the victim on 9/08/21 and 10/09/21 after an argument over the suspect’s girlfriend.”

Mpofu is now facing murder charges.

Meanwhile, police said they were investigating murder case in Gweru of Thokozani Sibanda who was allegedly assaulted by his neigbhour from Insukamini village.

” Police in Gweru arrested Andrew Muvhimi (29) in connection with a murder case which occurred on 25/08/21 at Insukamini vegetable market,” police said.

“The victim, Thokozani Sibanda (25), died upon admission at Makepesi Clinic after a fist fight with the suspect.

” The suspect had accused the victim of stealing his clothes.”

In Bulawayo, police have charged a teenage girl with infanticide after she dumped her still born child in a sewage stream.

Police said the teen went into labour before giving birth to a still born baby, which she disposed of at a sewage stream near Manemo shopping centre

“Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of concealment of birth which occurred on 26/08/21 in Nkulumane,” police said.

“The suspect (18) gave birth to a still born baby and disposed of the body in a sewage stream near Manemo shopping centre.”
