Drunk Lupane teen goes berserk, kills brother-in-law

A drunk 17 year-old Lupane boy allegedly went berserk and stabbed his brother-in-law to death during a dispute over an undisclosed matter.

According to police records, Comedy Moyo from Tshebetshebe Village has since been charged for murdering Rynas Dube, a male aged 27 years from the same village at Mahoho Business Centre on Tuesday.

It is alleged that at around 4PM, Dube approached Moyo at his workplace at Ntuntuko Shop where he was employed as a storekeeper.

“The deceased started to fight with the accused over an undisclosed matter,” a docket by Lupane police reads in part.

“The deceased then bolted out of the shop and returned after about five minutes and found the accused person seated on the veranda of the shop.

“The deceased and accused person who were drunk started to fight again (and) the accused person ran inside the shop and came back armed with a knife and stabbed the deceased once on the left side of the neck.”

Police said Dube fell down and was bleeding profusely but the teen went back to the shop leaving him lying down on the ground.

“Felex Dube (20) of the same village rushed to the scene and assisted the deceased and placed him in the shade (and he was) still showing signs of life,” the police report said.

“Felex Dube then went to the village and advised the deceased’s mother, Khathazile Mpofu, and they proceeded to the scene in the company of some villagers and observed that the deceased had already passed on.”

A report was made to the police the same evening, leading to the arrest of the accused and the recovery of a knife that was used to carry out the gruesome act.

The deceased’s body was taken to the St Luke’s Mission Hospital mortuary waiting to be transported to Bulawayo for a post mortem at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.
