One of Matabeleland North’s most prominent traditional leaders Chief Mabhikwa died on Sunday after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a haulage truck along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway.

Born Nichodemus Vusumuzi Khumalo (29), Chief Mabhikwa died at St Lukes Hospital, a family spokesperson Donald Khumalo told the state controlled media.
Khumalo said the accident happened at around 10PM.
“It is true, unfortunately, Chief Mabhikwa has died,” Khumalo was quoted saying.

“We are mourning as a family.
“Details from the family say he was involved in a collision with a haulage truck around 10 PM along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway.
“He was later on rushed to St Lukes Hospital in Lupane where he died.

The late Chief Mabhikwa Khumalo
Chief Mabhikwa is from the Jotsholo area in Lupane.
He was installed as chief in 2012 aged 19. He succeeded his father Edwin, who died in 2006.
Nick Mangwana, the government spokesperson, described Chief Mabhikwa, who was a Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) board as a “very dynamic young chief.”
