BCC, vendors clash leaves three injured

Three people were on Thursday morning rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries after Bulawayo City Council police fired rubber bullets at protesting illegal vendors in the central business area.

Police in a statement said the injured who were part of the defiant illegal street traders are admitted at United Bulawayo Hospitals. 

“ZRP confirms a shooting incident in which three people were injured after Bulawayo City Council Police fired rubber bullets to disperse a crowd which had gathered to demonstrate against an operation targeting illegal vendors in Bulawayo CBD on 23/01/23 in the morning, ” police said. 

” The injured are admitted at United Bulawayo Hospitals.”

The vendors, most of them affiliated to Zanu PF, have been refusing to move from undesignated areas as the local authority battles to bring order on the congested streets. 

In the video, large crowds of vendors were seen defying police orders and loud screams were heard as police backed out. 

Police said more details regarding the matter will be released in due course.
