39 Bulawayo students arrested at a Vuzu party, police recover used condoms

The Zimbabwe Republic Police on Friday arrested 39 students at a Vuzu party in Bulawayo following a police raid where used and unused condoms, beer and cigarettes were recovered from the scene.

In a statement, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Saturday said the students from various schools were arrested at a Khumalo suburb house.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of 39 students from various schools in Bulawayo at a certain house in Khumalo Suburb on 18 November 2022 while conducting a Vuzu party,”Nyathi said.

“Some whisky, cigarette stubs, used and unused condoms were recovered at the scene. Investigations are underway for more information to be revealed,”

Nyathi said investigations were still underway.

Vuzu parties are indoor gatherings that are common in Bulawayo.

They are mostly held by teenagers without adult supervision where beer drinking, drugs and illicit sex take place.

Last year, a total of 16 people from Bulawayo and Harare were arrested and charged for hosting Vuzu parties.
