Tsholotsho district has been identified as one of the areas where foreign-registered vehicles have been lingering long after their temporary import permits have expired.
Foreign-registered vehicles, imported under temporary import permits for visitors’ vehicles (TIP), have been lingering long after their permits have expired.
Some have been abandoned, while others have been involved in accidents or broken down, leaving their owners stranded.
ZIMRA, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, has taken notice of this trend and has issued a public notice reminding the public that it is an offense to keep these vehicles in Zimbabwe beyond the expiration of their TIP.
“It is noted that a number of these vehicles are in Zimbabwe, at inland cities and in other areas like Chipinge, Tsholotsho, Gokwe, and Guruve,” the notice reads.
ZIMRA is urging persons in possession of these vehicles to contact their nearest office or email them by September 30, 2024, to regularize the stay of their vehicle or export it from Zimbabwe.
Failure to do so will result in the vehicle being treated as liable for seizure and possible forfeiture in terms of the Customs and Excise Act.
