Victoria Falls vllagers form football league

Villagers from Chidobe and Kachechete on the outskirts of Victoria Falls have joined hands to form a football league to cater from talented youths, who cannot make it into established leagues in the region.

The Chidobe Kachechete Football League will kick-off this month with 16 teams, its founding chairman Standard Weza said.

The two villages used to have teams playing in two separate league, namely the Mvuthu Football League and Monde

“We want to make this league an industry for young people,” Weza said.

“We have seen it in many leagues where there is always conflict, but we want to see something different as we mould young people from our community.”

He said teams that are going to join the league should have junior teams that will be playing concurrently with the seniors.

Weza said they had secured sponsorship for the main league and for the juniors.

“We want to make sure that juniors are accommodated and we have got the support of a local businessman, who has shown interest in sponsoring that.” he said.

The teams, who had their meeting on March 20, said they want transparency in the way funds would be handled.

To kick-start the season, it was revealed that the league has received a sponsorship of US$ 1000 and another US$300 for the Independence Day Cup that will be used as a launch pad.

So far, 12 teams have confirmed their participation in the league, namely  Power Giants, Masters, Mopane, Dragon ( from Chidob, Zamalek from Bh36, Ajax from Bh34, Rainbow from Bh37, Sundowns from Bh60, Siyabonga from Monde, Lupinyo, Golden Arrows and Wounded Buffalo from Bh28.
