A Victoria Falls man was on Tuesday trampled to death by an elephant in yet another deadly case of human wildlife conflict in the area.
The man identified as Shadrack Moyane Mtetwa was reportedly found lifeless in a bush in Lupinyo, a village on the outskirts of the resort city.
Mtetwa was said to have died in a hospital in Victoria Falls after he was rescued by fellow villagers who found him near the airport.
He was travelling from Kachecheti Village to Victoria Falls city when tragedy struck.
“We found him in a very bad state and we managed to get him to hospital,” said one of the villagers.
“Unfortunately he passed on.”
The councillor for the area Givemore Moyo said Mtetwa’s death urged the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) to take the issue of human wildlife conflict seriously.
“For a long time we have been talking to government about this but there has been no action,” Moyo said.
“Now a family has lost a bread winner and this will affect them for their entire lives.
“I continue to urge the government to support these people and the children who have been left without a father.”
Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo was no available for comment.
