A Victoria Falls family is seeking US$8000 to repatriate the body of their son who drowned at a sea in Cyprus.
Lovejoy Zinyuke (24), had just completed his electrical and electronic engineering degree at the University of Lefke, when he died on August 4 following the drowning incident at Geminkona Lefke.
Zinyuke had remained in Cyprus after completing his studies so that he could graduate.
His family back home is now frantically trying to raise money to repatriate his body for burial.
“Lovejoy Zinyeku was a final year student awaiting his graduation at University of Lefke in Cyprus studying electrical and electronic engineering,” the family said in the appeal circulating online.
“The young man drowned in the sea in Geminkona Lefke on the 4th of August 2022 and died the very same evening.”
Due to the untimely tragedy, the family said they did not have enough money to repatriate his remains.
“Such an unexpected tragedy came as a shock to the Zinyuke family and friends of the young man,” the appeal says.
Along with pain overwhelming their hearts, the tragedy has caused a financial burden to the family for repatriation of Lovejoy’s so that he may be laid in peace in his own country, Zimbabwe.
“On that note, we are kindly asking for financial assistance to help the Zinyuke family lay their son in their own land.
“No amount is too little, any amount is greatly appreciated.”
