Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs minister Richard Moyo said Sibanda died on Wednesday at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where he had been admitted since last week due to Covid-19 complications.

Moyo said the Zanu PF legislator’s condition started to deteriorate three days ago.

“We are yet to gather more details from the family, but the information that we got was that he succumbed to Covid-19,” the minister said.

“He had been admitted for some days at UBH and for the past three days he was in the intensive care unit (ICU) as he struggled to breathe before passing on last night, according to the information that the party (Zanu PF) gave me.

“I was phoned this morning by the honourable senator Alice Dube and I have requested her to find out more about this tragedy.”

Sibanda first won the Tsholotsho South seat in 2013, which he retained in 2018.

Former Tsholotsho North MP Jonathan Moyo described the late Sibanda as a “humble” leader.

“He was a decent and humble community leader, who cared for everyone,” Moyo tweeted.

“May his memory be a blessing and his soul dwell in the House of the Lord forever.”
