Truck driver, passenger seriously injured following accident

A Gweru based truck driver and a passenger are reportedly in a critical condition after the haulage they were traveling in bumped onto another vehicle before jackknifing in Hwange.

Life Pirukai (26) of 1941 Woodlands in Gweru is suspected to have been speeding when the accident happened near Chicken Inn in Hwange on Sunday.

Pirukai suffered chest and back internal injuries while the passenger, Lovemore Ngorima sustained a deep cut on the forehead and both were rushed to Hwange Colliery Hospital where they were admitted.

Police said their condition was critical.

The truck that was being driven by Pirukai belonged to Gweru based T. Muzire.

He allegedly bumped onto another vehicle which was in front of him resulting in his truck jackknifing in the middle or the road. 

“On the 26th of February at around 7:15pm the first party Life Pirukai was driving a public service motor vehicle along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road heading towards Victoria Falls with one passenger on board. On approaching the 334 km peg, he hit an unidentified vehicle from the back and the truck jackknifed in the middle of the road,”Matabeleland North public relations department said.

The other vehicle did not stop while Pirukai’s truck suffered frontal damages.

Police said investigations are in progress and Pirukai will be charged with negligent driving.
