Traditional leader chief Marupi dies at 28

Chief Marupi of Gwanda District in Matabeleland South has died at the age of 28.

One of the country’s youngest traditional leaders, Chief Marupi succumbed to a short illness at Healthpoint Hospital in Harare where he was admitted.

His death comes days after he lost his official Government vehicle that was stolen when armed robbers broke into his homestead.

Gwanda District Development Coordinator Nomathemba Ndlovu confirmed the death of Chief Marupi. She said the district had lost its youngest chief.

“He passed on this evening (yesterday) while admitted to Healthpoint Hospital in Harare,” she said.

Born Oaheng Nare, Chief Marupi, was installed in 2012 as a minor awaiting to officially take over in 2014 when he turned 18, taking over from his father Chief Lawrence Nare who died in 2008.

Chief Marupi is survived by his wife Rorisang Tlou.

A few years ago the nation mourned yet another young Chief Mabhikwa of Lupane in Matabeleland North who died in a car accident.
