Three months, 29 deaths: Drowning becomes growing concern in Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has raised alarm over the increasing number of drowning incidents across the country.

Between June and August, a total of 29 drowning cases were reported, with victims engaging in various activities such as swimming, fishing, participating in Manjuzu rituals, and bathing.

In one incident on July 7, a person drowned while performing Manjuzu rituals at Garimo River in Domboshava. Another incident occurred on August 20, at Harzel Dine Farm Dam in Karoi, where a person drowned while casting nets.

Additionally, a drowning case was reported in Kamativi on August 28, where a person lost their life while swimming in Chilonga River.

As the country approaches the summer and rainy season, the ZRP is urging the public to exercise caution and take safety measures when approaching water bodies to prevent loss of life.
