Government gives a nod to vacation lessons for exam classes

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has announced that schools are now authorized to conduct vacation school for Grade 7, Form 4, and Upper 6 students.

In a statement today, the ministry said lessons will take place during the August holidays and are intended to help students who are preparing for their exams.

The fees for these vacation lessons have been set at the following rates per learning area (in US dollars): Grade 7 – $2, Form 4 – $3, and Form 6 – $5. Boarding students will be required to pay an extra $4 per day.

“The holiday lessons will take place between 19 and 30 August, a period of ten (10) working days only.” the statement read.

“Pupils should turn out in their school uniforms and teachers should be appropriately dressed,”

The Ministry has emphasized the importance of proper record-keeping and accountability, with schools required to issue receipts and maintain accurate books of accounts.

The vacation school program will be supervised and monitored by the Inspectorate, District Literacy Coordinators, and Remedial Tutors to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

A portion of the funds collected will be allocated towards stationery and learning materials (30%), administrative expenses (20%), and teacher appreciation (50%).
