Four die in Bulawayo- Victoria Falls highway bus crash

Four people, including the driver died and 18 were injured when Binga bound bus ploughed into a tree along the Bulawayo Victoria Falls Road on Friday, police say.

The driver of the Kakono bus is said to have lost control of the vehicle before it hit he tree.

“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 111km peg along Bulawayo-Vic Falls Road on 26/08/22 at around 0940 hours, where a motorist who was driving a DAF bus with 40 passengers on board went off the road and hit a tree,” police said.

“Four people, including the driver, died on the spot, while 18 others were injured.”

The bus has been identified as Kakono.

According to eyewitness, the top half of the bus was blown away due to the impact and due to unavailability of safety seat belts in the DAF buses, passengers were thrown out of the vehicle.

Police said the names of the victims will be released in due course.

Survivors were taken to St Lukes Hospital in Lupane.

Meanwhile, police in Gwanda said they are investigating a fatal road traffic accident that occurred at the 174km peg along Bulawayo- Beitbridge road on Wednesday close to midnight where an unknown man was hit by a Toyota Wish vehicle while crossing the road.

“The victim, who was wearing a red T-shirt and blue jean trousers, died on the spot. The body was conveyed to Gwanda Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.”
