The 42km Deka water pipeline project, financed by the Exim Bank of India, has been completed and commissioned.
Although the project faced challenges and missed its target, it will enhance power generation at Hwange Power Station’s new Unit 7 and 8.
The pipeline draws water from the Deka High Lift Pump Station on the Zambezi River and features three outlets to supply communities in Chief Wange.
Earlier this week, a delegation from India led by Shri Puneet Kundal handed over the project to ZPC through Energy and Power Development Minister Edgar Moyo.
“The Deka upgrading project is contributing towards the generation of 600MW more power at Hwange Power Station,” said Minister Moyo.
“This project supports the national vision of infrastructure development to achieve an empowered upper middle-income society.”
Zimbabwe faces significant electricity challenges, with a deficit of about 600MW. The country’s power generation capacity is currently insufficient to match demand.
Kundal emphasized the project’s significance for both countries, providing water to communities and creating jobs.
Chief Wange expressed gratitude for the benefits his subjects derived from the project.
