Chidobe Kachecheti Football League (Chika) champions Dragons will be crowned winners on Sunday in a closing ceremony that will be held at Sinyore Stadium.
Dragons, who won the league with forty points, seven ahead of second placed Masters will be the first team to be crowned Chika champions in the newly formed league, which kicked off in June this year with nine teams competing in Victoria Falls’ rural outskirts.
According to Chika chairman Standard Weza all teams in the league will be rewarded, but Dragons will lift the shield and a whooping prize of US$ 200 on top.
“It was a good start for Chika. We wanted to learn a lot but we are happy because the league has come to an end without any hiccups so we are ready to celebrate this milestone,” Weza said.
“We are happy that the Chidobe business community has promised to continue supporting us next season, of which we are assured that the league will be financially sound.
“So in the meantime talks are going on with our Independence Trophy and Africa Day sponsors and as soon as everything is complete all stakeholders will be informed.”
After the prize giving ceremony the league management said they will begin to focus on the Champions’ League, which will kick off on November 13.
At the ceremony, there will also be individual awards with Dragons expected to dominate the accolades.
