All people that have
so far died of Covid-19 at public institutions in Matabeleland North since the
province started rolling out its vaccination programme, were yet to receive
their doses.
Munekayi Padingani,
Matabeleland North medical director, said the province has recorded 56
deaths and all of them were people that were not vaccinated for Covid-19.
“We have not had any fatality case related to the
vaccinated,” Padingani said.
“We are still, however, receiving positive cases among those
who have had their full immunity vaccination doses.
“But the numbers are too marginal compared to those who have
not yet done so.
“For instance in week 27 of 2021, we closed that week with
741 cases and of the total, 590 were unvaccinated, 50 were half and fully
vaccinated.”
He said 101 cases were yet to be verified because they were
tested at private institutions.
Hwange district has the highest number of Covid-19 deaths in
Matabeleland North at 24, district medical officer Fungai Musinami said.
The province has 2 157 cumulative cases. At least 101 670
people have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 58 346 are
fully vaccinated. The government in March launched an aggressive Covid-19
vaccination programme in Victoria Falls, the largest urban area in Matabeleland
North, as a strategy to revive Zimbabwe’s tourism industry.
