A Victoria Falls man, who was found with a bag full of wire snares, which he intended to use to trap wild animals, has been fined $30 000 for the offence.
Enock Ndlovu (28) from Aerodrome Suburb pleaded guilty to “possession of class one wire snares for purposes of trapping any animal” when he appeared before the Victoria Falls residents magistrate Godswilll Mavenge.
Prosecutors said on September 12 at around 08:45 AM and at the Big Tree area, Ndlovu was seen by Trevor Sibanda carrying a bag with wire snares.
Sibanda then alerted the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority who then apprehended the man
During the search, rangers recovered three class one wire snares.
In court, Ndlovu said he committed the offence out of poverty as he had no other way of getting an income.
In his sentence, Mavenge said he had considered his mitigation and plea of guilt, but a fine was prudent to deter him from committing a similar offence.
