Big win for Dragon as Zamalek go third on the table

Dragon Football Club went a step close to the Mvuthu Football League title after an impressive away win over stubborn Lupinyo City over the weekend.

Dragon, who have been struggling in the past four games and almost destroyed their title chances, saw themselves returning back to the top table at 68 points as the season nears the.

They got their goals from their leading marksman Mqabuko Ndlovu and Simanga Ndlovu.

Dragon had a brilliant first half as they welcomed back their star defender Zolile Ndlovu.

Across the village in Kachechete, Zamalek beat a stubborn Black Leopard 4-2 to move to third on the table with 57 points after 28 matches.

Zamalek got their goals from Mkhululi Nyoni who got a brace with Johna Ncube adding the third with a goal of his life before Craig Nkomo put the final nail in Leopard’s coffin.

In other matches Red Wipers got six soft points when their opponents failed to show up.

Red Wipers were set to host Masters and Moro Moro over the weekend.

Masters captain Mbekezeli Ndlovu said the failure to show up for the match was due to ill-treatment of players.

However, on Sunday Masters took the advantage of their inactivity on Saturday to beating Wounded Buffaloes 2-0 at Chidobe’s Sinyore Stadium.

Elsewhere, CerClass were the better team on Sunday when they beat Ndlovu United 4-3 in a closely contested match.

At Number Four Grounds, Mopane also had a stellar weekend with six points collected when they beat Ajax and Eagles with identical 1-0 score lines.

The results affected Ajax as they slipped from the third spot to fourth, a point behind Zamalek and nine points behind the log leaders.

For Ajax to win the league, they only need a miracle that will see Dragon and Wipers losing all their remaining matches, the team’s coach Dumisani Moyo said.

“l am completely out of the race,” Moyo said.

“l lost a very important game and now I can’t catch up with the other title contenders.

“So, for now we will have to fight to remain in the top four race.”

Meanwhile, Ndlovu United Juniors are set to be crowned champions if they beat Ziyabaluma on Sunday.
