A Victoria Falls security guard has been fined US$250 after being convicted of illegally transporting 11 guinea fowls without the required authority.
The sentence follows VicFallsLive’s follow-up of a case that was announced by the Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit, which had earlier reported the arrest of a suspect in connection with the illegal possession of guinea fowl meat.
Court records identify the accused as Lawrence Ncube (55), a resident of Mkhosana employed by Charubin Security Company as a security guard.
According to the State Outline, “on the 09th day of July 2026 at around 1000 hours, game scouts from Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit were on patrol in Mkhosana area and they received information that the accused person was in possession of guinea fowl meat at his house.”
The court heard that the game scouts, accompanied by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers, proceeded to Ncube’s residence.
The State said: “A search was then conducted and 11 dried guinea fowls were discovered inside a dish in the accused person’s dining room.”
Ncube was arrested and taken to Victoria Falls Police Station, where a report was made.
According to court papers, the guinea fowls were taken to an ecologist, whose report can be produced in court as an exhibit. The birds were valued at US$1,100.
Prosecutors told the court that Ncube had “unlawfully and intentionally removed eleven guinea fowls from Masikili Business Centre, Matetsi, to house number (withheld) in Mkhosana, without a permit,” contrary to the Parks and Wildlife Act.
He was convicted of contravening Section 59(2)(b) as read with Section 59(5) of the Parks and Wildlife Act [Chapter 20:14], which relates to removing any animal or part of an animal from one place to another without appropriate authority.
The Victoria Falls Magistrates’ Court sentenced Ncube to pay a US$250 fine or, in default of payment, serve two months’ imprisonment.
