A 27-year-old Victoria Falls man has been convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to assaulting his wife and threatening to kill her with a screwdriver.
Nqoba Jason Ncube appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Bentone Matope and pleaded guilty to a charge of physical abuse under the Domestic Violence Act.
Cynthia Mayibongwe Makhaya prosecuted for the State.
According to the State outline, Ncube and his wife, Molyn Tadzimirwa, are both residents of Victoria Falls.
The court heard that on 7 September 2026 at around 10AM, Ncube was drunk at their home in Mkhosana and started playing music at a high volume.
Tadzimirwa reportedly asked him not to go to work because he was drunk, leading to a misunderstanding between the couple.
The State said Ncube then assaulted his wife several times on the face with open hands.
He allegedly went on to lock the door and threatened to kill her with a screwdriver.
Police officers subsequently intervened, gained entry into the house and arrested Ncube.
The screwdriver was recovered and can be produced as an exhibit, according to the State outline.
The court papers state that Tadzimirwa was not medically examined following the assault.
Ncube was convicted on his own plea of guilty and sentenced on Thursday.
The court ordered him to pay a US$100 fine or equivalent to ZIG, with the alternative 30 days sentence indicated on the court record being imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
