Victoria Falls magistrates court

Two Victoria Falls men have been fined US$250 each after pleading guilty to smoking dagga.

Mthambeni Artwell, 29, and Thiery Nyoni, 28, appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Bentone Matope last week and were convicted on their own pleas of guilty.

Dephine Ntini prosecuted for the State.

The two were charged with contravening Section 157(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23, relating to the unlawful use of dangerous drugs.

According to court papers, the offence occurred on 8 September 2026 at around 11.30am at house in Chinotimba, Victoria Falls.

The State alleged that detectives who were on patrol proceeded to the house after receiving information and found Artwell and Nyoni smoking dagga.

The two were subsequently arrested and taken to the police station for further management.

The charge sheet states that the pair β€œunlawfully and intentionally used dangerous drugs”, specifically by smoking dagga.

After pleading guilty, they were convicted and sentenced by Matope.

Each was ordered to pay a US$250 fine, with an alternative of three months’ imprisonment.

The case adds to recent drug-related matters appearing before the Victoria Falls Magistrate Court involving young adults accused of smoking dagga.
