Mourners from all walks of life have gathered at Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube’s farm in Shangani, Matabeleland South, to bid their final farewells to the national liberation hero.
Dube passed away on Thursday evening at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo, aged 83, due to kidney failure.
President Mnangagwa has since declared Dube a national hero, and his burial is scheduled for Wednesday at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
Today, a sendoff funeral service is being held at his farm, followed by another service at Barbourfields Stadium on Monday morning.
Afterward, his body will be flown to Harare, where it will lie in state until his burial on Wednesday.
A Zimbabwe National Army helicopter has already arrived in Shangani with Dube’s body for the funeral service.
In attendance are his wife, service chiefs, senior Zanu-PF and government officials, friends, and family members.
Dube’s passing has been met with an outpouring of grief, as he was widely regarded as a champion of truth and a benefactor to Highlanders Football Club.
His contributions to the liberation struggle have left a lasting impact on the nation.
