Residents of Lupane and surrounding communities are being urged to assist authorities in identifying sixteen unclaimed bodies currently being held at St. Luke’s Hospital mortuary.
According to a statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Matabeleland North Province, the remains, which include four babies, have been in the hospital mortuary for several years after being brought in dead on different occasions without any identifying particulars.
Police say the prolonged stay of the bodies in the mortuary highlights the importance of community cooperation in tracing relatives and ensuring the deceased are given dignified burials.
The ZRP is appealing to members of the public who may have information about missing relatives or who can help identify the deceased to come forward.
For further information, members of the public can contact the Lupane District Social Development Officer, Mrs. Chaparira, on 0773 242 691.
Authorities hope that with the assistance of the community, the identities of the deceased can be established and their families notified.
